Local Costa Rican Favorite Dishes: The ones you have to try

A key determinant of whether you enjoy your vacation anywhere in the world (or not) is the variety and flavors of local foods that you experience. Each country has its specialties and foods that have been cooked in the communities for centuries.

Costa Rica is known for its biodiversity, lush rainforests, and glorious beaches, but it also has a host of popular local foods. All can be found in local restaurants or "soft drinks" and are incredible value for money. So if you are heading to this Central American country, there are a lot of foods that you really must look for and try. Here is my list of favorites:

The top of the list is Gallo Pinto or Beans and Rice. This is a staple of the Costa Rican diet and on every menu, whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It is also known as typical food and it is delicious.

Next is the ceviche. Some people think that raw fish is like sushi, but this is not true. The fresh fish is cooked in the juice of the lemons while it is stored in the refrigerator and also the coriander and the onion. I love it and could eat it all day.

Empanadas are another typical Costa Rican food. Made from corn or maize, these round flatbread patties are filled with beans, cheese, and maybe potatoes and meat.

For me, Costa Rica is about fresh fish and wonderfully fresh fruits that are in abundance. They include papaya, mango, pineapple (pineapple), watermelon (watermelon), melon (cantaloupe), blackberries (blackberries), lemons (lemons), guava (guava), granadilla (passion fruit), and avocados (avocados). Many of these are served alone or as a soda, a drink mixed with ice.

The best of them is the pipe or the coconut water. It is a natural isotonic drink that is enriched with vitamins and minerals. Coconut juice has become a 'super drink' in the US and people pay over $ 6 for a packaged coconut water drink. The cost of picking a coconut from a tree and drinking its juice in Costa Rica is $ 0 and the experience is incredible.

My final suggestion is arroz con pollo or chicken and rice. It sounds very simple and inelegant. It is exactly that and absolutely delicious. It often comes with salad and plantin (a form of cooked banana). It always fills you up when you need a filling meal and is always served with a Costa Rican เมนูเด็ดจากร้านเด็ด.
